Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how we work, learn, and govern. Recognising its potential, Indonesia has recently released the White Paper on the National AI Roadmap along with a Concept of Ethical Guidelines for AI, an important step in planning how AI will develop and be used across the country.

A Collaborative Effort
The roadmap is not the work of a single agency or expert. It reflects the contributions of 443 stakeholders from government, academia, industry, civil society, and media. By bringing together diverse perspectives, the White Paper aims to create a comprehensive and responsible framework for AI development in Indonesia.
Ethics at the Core
Alongside the roadmap, Indonesia proposes new ethical guidelines for AI, building on existing policies from the 2023 Ministerial Circular on AI Ethics. These guidelines focus on ensuring that AI is used safely, fairly, and responsibly, highlighting the country’s commitment to innovation that respects societal values.
Public Consultation: Your Voice Matters
What makes this initiative unique is the open consultation process. Stakeholders and the public are invited to submit feedback on the roadmap and ethical guidelines (can be downloaded here) until August 29, 2025 via kerjal.aikita@mail.komdigi.go.id. This participatory approach ensures that AI policies are shaped by those who will be affected by them, creating a living document rather than a top-down directive.
Why It Matters
By engaging experts and the public, Indonesia is positioning itself as a thoughtful AI ecosystem, balancing technological advancement with ethical responsibility. For researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, this is a rare opportunity to influence national AI strategy, making sure innovation aligns with societal needs and values.
